I often talk about this video at my socialisation classes.
Watch the Minnie and Oscar Beach Video here.
You will see Minnie and Oscar at a beach in Perth, during our working holiday in March 2015. The two dogs are playing hard, but as soon as dogs they do not know come into the mix they tone down their games. Once those dogs leave they start playing full on again.
It is important for dogs to know appropriate play. Sometimes it is not appropriate to play rough around dogs they don't know, small children, groups of people, antique furniture ... you get my point.
You will also hear my warning tone at the end. Once the dogs hear it they stop playing and calm down. Dogs should be able to play. But as their owner, you need to be able to calm them down if the moment calls for it.
Teaching warning tone, consequences and praise does this effectively.
