What our customers said about training with us...
Hi, I"m Bella, a 10 month old excitable Groodle. After we finished puppy school, my mum decided to take me to dog school with Sarah and her team, and, pant, pant, all their dogs. I get to see all my doggie pals, while my mum chats to their owners. Then I have to concentrate really hard and learn how to sit, drop, not touch food which is put in front of me, heel, etc. Of course, my mum has to learn how to do this too so we can practice together at dog school and at home. Naturally I want to be my best self. Sometimes it's really tricky to focus with all the distractions, but I soon get put back on track. I learn with firm correction and lots of love and praise. Wow, do I love being told I'm a good girl!! I've really got the message that I don't get ANY food rewards for learning all these good manners. I know I'm an adolescent and have fabulous and challenging days, but I'm making wonderful progress. I like showing how I can sit and wait to be patted when we meet people on our daily walks. Sarah is really fantastic - I think she gets inside my brain and knows what I'm thinking, before I do!!! My mum and I love working with Sarah and her team who are always patient, kind and firm. They don't let me get away with anything and support my mum to help us both learn and work well. Why not get your human to bring you along - you'll have heaps of fun learning together.
"We chose to continue dog training with Canine Comprehension after our first in-home visit from Suzeanne. We adopted Rocky when he was 6 months old and had found it hard to find a puppy school he could attend as he was "a bit old." In one afternoon, Rocky had gone from an over-excited puppy to one who could sit calmly, albeit not for a very long time. To have Rocky not pulling on the lead was important to us because he was only going to get stronger.
The casual nature of weekly sessions suited us, but we haven't missed a week yet!
My family have all benefited from attending classes. Rocky improves every week with lots of practise at home. My 13 year old has gained great dog training skills under Sarah's guidance and is confident in handling Rocky on some of our walks. We have been supported by the whole team at CC"
"Canine Comprehension is the best decision I have ever made. Our German Shepard is such a well behaved boy now and our lives are so much easier!!! I would and do recommend them to EVERYONE."
"I adopted a rescue dog with some issues around hear aggression. I had private lessons with Sarah before attending dog training classes. It takes tie but I am so pleased and happy with the progress Molly has shown. My dog no longer reacts in fear to other dogs and has learnt how to behave appropriately around other dogs and new situations. I was told I could only adopt Molly if I had no children or other dogs, Molly now lives with a young toddler and is around other dogs all the time. This method of training is amazing."
"We absolutely loved puppy school with Canine Comprehension. Our pup learnt so many valuable lessons which have set her up to be a well-behaved and well-socialised dog. Thank you Canine Comprehension!!"
"I recommend Canine Comprehension, in particular Sarah's training classes to all my friends. At times I listen to my friends speak about the issues they have with their dogs and I feel so thankful that I begun training (at home visits and classes) with Sarah when I first go my puppy. We have continued to the adult classes with her and I fully support and endorse Canine Comprehensions methodology and vision."
"When we adopted Ted we knew he had some problems, but the complexity of his issues took some time to surface. After some failed starts with other trainers and a general sense of 'we need to accept that Ted needs to be managed as a dysfunctional dog til the end of his days', I was lucky to meet Sarah at an event and immediately felt that this was someone who could help us get through to him. Sarah's 5 lessons package got us to a level of good behaviour that I had not even imagined was possible, and has improved Ted's life and our relationship with him immensely. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved under Sarah's unique guidance and we now have a long tern plan for continuing his training and socialisation for a pretty normal doggy future."

"My Labrador and I have worked with Canine Comprehension through puppy school, dog obedience classes and several private lessons over the past 9 months. Sarah and Sue have been absolutely fantastic instructors on every occasion. Puppy school was a brilliant place to lay down the foundations for a good dog and attendance at further obedience classes has set us on track for Chloe to be a great dog. In all the classes we were taught how to work well with our dog, being shown first on a demo dog followed by lost of time to practice the new technique/training tip. The trainers always have time and patience in class for questions and to go over challenging behaviours that some dogs show. My dog has recently been showing some particularly challenging behaviours and through a couple of 1:1 home lessons and many more problem solving sessions with Sarah, she has transformed my dog into a lovable, respectable and much more obedient pup.
Her determination to see our dog succeed and the hard work she put in for us is truely commendable and I would recommend her to anyone. The super obedient dogs that both Sarah and Sue own are further testament to their amazing dog training skills. With hard work in between each lesson and the continued expertise, guidance and great instruction from Canine Comprehension we are well on the way to having a beautifully obedient and well trained dog. We can't thank them enough."

Neeky started with Canine Comprehension in an 11am puppy class, she loved socialising with the other dogs and we learned the basics of training and handling all sorts of puppy behavioural challenges. It was great each week when we had a chance to “dob” in our puppy’s odd habits and get good advice on how to handle them. We graduated to the good dog classes (the graduation hats were great!) where we learned all the basics of training. Neeky picked up the basics pretty quickly though I will admit that I was a little slower. One of the best parts of these classes was that each week is a little different, making mistakes is encouraged so that you learn from them and you do progressively develop effective dog handling techniques and the “dob” in a behavioural issue helps with addressing problems as they arise. Eventually we were all ready to graduate again and we moved to the 10am Great dog classes. Neeky is always really excited when we arrive and loves catching up with her “pack” each week (although the group is always a little different) and we are getting more confident with our dog handling so we have the opportunity to work with Neeky on and off the leash. While the classes cycle through a series of lessons they are never repetitive and you feel like you learn something new every time you train. The casual nature of the lessons is also great as you can come when you can and its not an issue if you miss lessons for a few weeks. Neeky is now pretty good at transitions (site/drop/stand), we can walk her off the lead in parks, she knows how to play with other dogs and is learning some fun tricks (she loves to spin!). One of the best aspects of the training is that Sarah and her team of trainers create a really welcoming, supportive and encouraging environment. I have had dogs before and have tried other dog schools in the past, but I never really felt comfortable, they were a little overwhelming for me. What I really enjoy about Canine Comprehension’s classes is that it is such a relaxed environment where I feel really comfortable.
Buster and I started training with Sarah at Canine Comprehension Puppy School held at Eltham Vets, Eltham. Sarah's training methods really appealed to us. Instead of using treats, we use our voice and Buster really enjoyed the positive reinforcement he received. In fact he flourished, we progressed to Dog School then to Great dog school. Sarah's method of training provided us with a dog that has manners, is a delight to walk (no pulling) and comes back when we call. Sarah is readily available to problem solve using her vast knowledge in dog training. Buster and I really look forward to our Saturday morning training sessions with Sarah as there is always something new to learn to add to our repertoire, it also enables us to reinforce skills already learnt.
As a team we continue to create a happy household with an inclusive, sociable dog. Thanks Sarah we love your humorous relaxed down to earth approach.
"Sarah is always so understanding and patient, and has never ending solutions for puppy problems. Thanks Sarah, you've definitely made out house a calmer and more relaxed place to be."
"Canine Comprehension training provides highly experienced, expert advice with a trainer who is down to earth, practical and patient. I very much recommend this service."
"With such a big and challenging puppy I really needed a clear and effective training method to help me integrate our new doggy family member into our young family. Canine Comprehension has taught me techniques which have worked extremely well and now we have a big teenage dog who behaves in the house and when we are our and about. We still have some training to do to have the prefect manners but I know that if I stick with Canine Comprehension training we will get there. Thanks Sarah."
Thank you to Sarah and the wonderful trainers from Canine Comprehension. My son and I have been taking our 15 month old border collie for a year now and the three of us have learned so much. Thanks to Sarah and her skilled, knowledgeable and supportive team. We have seen our pup grow and learn so much such as manners, hold a drop stay for over an hour and go to his bed/mat when asked. We are still working on loose lead walking when excited but we are getting there! I urge anyone with a young dog or a dog with issues to come to dog school and let Sarah and her team work their magic. Oh and the owners all chat and have a laugh too. It's a lovely environment - come and join us.
Our family adopted Lewis (a 2 year old Jack Russell Red Heeler cross) from Pet Rescue in May 2016.
The Pet Rescue "story" described Lewis as a gentle, sweet boy who loves cuddles and is housetrained. However he had not been socialised and was very aggressive with dogs. A course of training with Canine Comprehension was recommended by Pet Rescue.
After speaking to you about Lewis, we had a period of training with Suezanne Cheng and her lovely dog Tilly which gave us the tools we needed to calm and control Lewis when he meets dogs he is not comfortable with. He is unlikely to ever be let off the lead at parks as he can still occasionally become airborne and nip at other dogs but we have now had many, many positive experiences on the lead with other dogs involving sniffing and tail wagging when out which is lovely to see. He has shared a couch with two Westies during the Richmond Grand Final and even had a couple of "sleepovers" with friends who have a Pug (he only forgot his manners a couple of times!).
Thank you for giving us the training we needed to help Lewis enjoy his interactions with dogs in a safe and happy way as he is a “Good Boy” (as per the training technique!!). Lewis could not be more loved and has brought so much joy to our family.
"We live on a corner near a park, where locals frequently walk their dogs. I have two small dogs plus Rosie a young Rhodesian Ridgeback who was a guest for a couple of years while my daughter and her husband completed work in outback Queensland.
Rosie is a good natured, intelligent dog with basic training. However, she tended to dominate other dogs when she was playing and she would not come back when she was called. She also loved to bark at the fence when people walked past. Neither dogs would take heed of mu rebukes, no matter how fierce I was. With Rosie, she was firm, consistent and kind, always quick to reward with praise. I was amazed by how quickly the dog learnt the new rules and looked for the signals. Molly sat and watched during the lesson, and was learning too. I would recommend Sarah to anyone who needed assistance on any level with their dogs. After just a few lessons and some practice, Rosie learnt to enjoy play without dominating and is no longer barking at our fence.
All that is required now is the occasional warning tone from me just as a reminder."
Molly the Show Poodle's Transformation
"Molly was a show poodle, who was 12 months old when she came to live with Jenny. Although Jenny has 45 years experience with poodles she was at a loss when it came to training Molly. Molly's only experience was in a show ring. She was taught to act excited and happy, but that was about it. She had no manners, she was not socialised to real life scenarios and was frightened of anything new. Her fear reactions were becoming difficult to live with. Each week Molly was also becoming more and more attached to Jenny and separation anxiety was becoming an issue.
Jenny called Canine Comprehension and completed 'A bit of help' package. Jenny and Molly have worked hard, but see for yourself. Molly has gone from being a dog who didn't know sit, drop or boundaries to a dog whose family loves having her around. As Jenny told me "the dog isn't controlling the house anymore."
Take a look at Molly's progress - she is now a happy, well mannered dog who is a pleasure to live with.
